Indications

Fluticasone Propionate is used to treat inflammatory and pruritic symptoms associated with corticosteroid-responsive eczema and dermatitis.

Pharmacology

Fluticasone propionate may be a glucocorticoid with tall topical anti-inflammatory potency, but a moo HPA-axis suppressive activity after dermal organization. It, subsequently, features a therapeutic list that is more prominent than most of the commonly accessible steroids. Fluticasone propionate contains a tall degree of selectivity for the glucocorticoid receptor. In vitro thinks about appears that fluticasone propionate encompasses a solid partiality for, and agonist movement at, human glucocorticoid receptors. This receptor is accepted to be capable of the anti-inflammatory properties of glucocorticoids. Fluticasone propionate has a frail fondness for the progesterone receptor, and virtually no fondness for the mineralocorticoid, estrogen, or androgen receptors. The restorative strength of glucocorticoids is related to the half-life of the glucocorticoid-receptor complex. The half-life of the Fluticasone propionate glucocorticoid-receptor complex is roughly 10 hours.

Dosage & Administration

Cream: Apply a thin layer of Fluticasone propionate cream to the affected skin areas once daily.
Ointment: Apply a thin layer of Fluticasone propionate Ointment to the affected skin areas twice daily.

Contraindications

Rosacea, Acne vulgaris, Perioral dermatitis, Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g., Herpes simplex, chicken pox), Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, Perianal and genital pruritus, and other conditions are contraindicated with fluticasone propionate. Fluticasone propionate is not recommended for the treatment of primary infected skin lesions caused by a fungal infection.

Side Effects

Local burning and pruritus have been reported with fluticasone propionate preparations, but they are usually well tolerated. If hypersensitivity symptoms appear, stop using the product right away. Local atrophic changes in the skin, such as thinning, striae, and dilatation of the superficial blood vessels, may occur after prolonged and intensive treatment with potent corticosteroid preparations. Corticosteroid use has also been linked to secondary infection, particularly when occlusive dressings are used or when skin folds are involved, as well as allergic contact dermatitis. Corticosteroid use has been linked to an increase in the signs and symptoms of dermatoses. Long-term use of large doses of corticosteroids, or treatment of large areas, can result in enough systemic absorption to cause hypercorticism’s symptoms. If occlusive dressings are used, this effect is more likely to occur in infants and children. The napkin may act as an occlusive dressing in infants.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Fluticasone propionate should only be considered during pregnancy if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs any potential risk to the fetus. Fluticasone propionate excretion into human breast milk has not been studied. The patient’s plasma levels of fluticasone propionate following dermal application at recommended doses are likely to be low.

Precautions & Warnings

Despite the fact that fluticasone propionate has a low propensity for systemic absorption, prolonged application of high doses to large areas of the body surface, particularly in infants and small children, may result in adrenal suppression. Topical corticosteroids are absorbed in a higher rate in children, making them more susceptible to systemic toxicity. After prolonged use of potent topical corticosteroids, the face, more than any other part of the body, may develop atrophic changes. When treating severe eczema, keep this in mind. When treating infected inflammatory lesions, appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used.

Storage Conditions

Protect from light and moisture by storing in a cool, dry place below 30?C. Keep out of children’s reach.
