Indications

In adults, Fero Plus is used to treat iron insufficiency and prevent concomitant Folic acid deficit. For the preservation of maternal hematopoiesis throughout pregnancy, especially if the mother’s diet is aberrant or inadequate.

Pharmacology

Iron is an essential component of the body, as it is required for the formation of hemoglobin and the oxidation of living tissues. Iron salt can only be used to treat and prevent anemia caused by iron deficiency. Chronic bleeding, nutritional deficiencies, pregnancy, parasitic infections, or iron malabsorption are the most common causes of iron deficiency anemia.

A lack of folic acid during pregnancy is well-known to cause megaloblastic anemia. Vitamins are not stored in the body, and the combination of fetal needs and malnutrition during pregnancy can result in deficiency, which can lead to anemia. It has been discovered that if folic acid intake is inadequate, the rapid production of red blood cells following iron treatment can deplete folic acid levels in the body.

Folic acid and ferrous fumarate together prevent complications. Iron and folic acid are absorbed primarily in the proximal small intestine, particularly the duodenum. Iron deficiency can be supplemented with ferrous fumarate and folic acid. As a result, the anemia process is avoided. Iron is absorbed into bone marrow tissue, where blood 

Dosage & Administration

• In anemia: The usual dose is one tablet or capsule daily.
• In severe or refractory iron deficiency anemia: The usual dose is one tablet or capsule twice daily may be given.
• In Pregnancy, it is recommended that the dose should be started at the first antenatal consultation and continued until 3 months after delivery.

Interaction

When Ferrous Fumarate and Folic Acid are taken together with Tetracycline, the absorption of both medicines is reduced. Iron absorption may be reduced if an antacid is taken at the same time. The number of anticonvulsants in the blood can be lowered by taking folate.

Contraindications

This is not recommended for patients with pernicious anemia or anemia caused by something other than iron deficiency. It is necessary to determine the nature and causes of anemia. Magnesium trisilicate and Antacid containing carbonate hinder the absorption of Ferrous Fumarate and Folic acid.

• Diarrhea
• Allergic reaction.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no contraindication in pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

It’s possible that taking Ferrous Fumarate and Folic acid during the first trimester of pregnancy isn’t a good idea. Physiological dosages of Folic acid protect just a small percentage of pregnant women. Patients should be evaluated further if anemia develops despite prevention with Ferrous Fumarate and Folic acid. Iron absorption is low in certain post-gastrectomy patients. When treating peptic ulcer patients, caution is required.
