Description:
Indication
Flugal 200 belongs to a class of drugs known as antifungals. Fluconazole is used to treat vaginal candidiasis, mucosal candidiasis (as oropharyngeal candidiasis, oesophagitis, mouth, throat, vagina, and other parts of the body, including fingernails and toenails, by inhibiting fungus growth and candiduria), systemic candidiasis, and cryptococcal infections (including meningitis).
Pharmacology
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal medication that works by inhibiting the ergosterol component of fungal cell membranes. It is effective against a wide range of fungal pathogens and can be taken orally. Absorption is rapid and extensive (>90%) after oral administration. Fasting and fed states have the same bioavailability. Fluconazole’s bioavailability is unaffected by gastric pH. The plasma half-life is about 30 hours. Fluconazole has a low plasma protein binding rate of 11% and is widely distributed throughout the body. The majority of the Fluconazole dose is excreted unchanged in the urine, with the remainder of the dose eliminated as metabolites.
