Description:
Metronidazole is indicated in:
- All forms of amoebiasis (intestinal and extra-intestinal disease including liver abscess and symptomless cyst passers)
- Trichomoniasis
- Giardiasis
- Bacterial vaginosis
- Acute ulcerative gingivitis
- Anaerobic infections include septicemia, bacteremia, peritonitis, brain abscess, necrotizing pneumonia, osteomyelitis, puerperal sepsis, pelvic abscess, pelvic cellulitis, etc.
- Anaerobically-infected leg ulcers and pressure sores
- Acute dental infections (e.g. acute pericoronitis and acute apical infections)
- Surgical prophylaxis (prevention of postoperative infections due to anaerobic bacteria, particularly species of Bacteroides and anaerobic streptococci
- Chronic symptomatic peptic ulcer disease (as an agent of triple therapy to eradicate H. pylori-the most important aetiological factor of peptic ulcer)
Safety Advices
Alcohol

To prevent unpleasant side effects like sickness, vomiting, stomach pain, palpitations, headaches, and heat flushes, it is advised that you abstain from drinking while receiving therapy with Metryl 500 and for 48 hours after finishing the term.
Pregnancy

Metryl 500 should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning for pregnant.
Breastfeeding

Avoid breastfeeding while taking Metryl 500 and for 12-24 hours after completing the course.
Driving
CAUTION
Metryl 500 Tablet may cause dizziness and drowsiness; thus, avoid using machinery or driving unless you are alert.
Kidney
CAUTION
Metryl 500 is to be taken with caution, especially if you have a history of kidney diseases/conditions. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your kidney conditions.
