Indications

The topical preparation of oxconazole is suitable for the topical treatment of the following skin infections: tinea pedis, tinea cruris and tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes or Epidermophyton floccosum. Oxiconazole cream is used for the topical treatment of tinea versicolor (pityriasis) caused by Malassezia.

 

Pharmacology

This topical formulation contains the active antifungal compound oxiconazole nitrate. For local dermatology use only. Oxiconazole nitrate is an imidazole derivative, and its antifungal activity mainly comes from the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis, and ergosterol biosynthesis is critical to the integrity of cell membranes. It has in vitro activity against a variety of pathogenic fungi. It has been shown that oxiconazole is active against most strains of the following organisms in vitro and in clinical infections of designated body parts: Epidermophyton flocculus, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Malassezia furfur bacteria. Oxiconazole showed satisfactory minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in vitro against most strains of the following organisms: Microsporum, Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypsum, Trichophyton, Trichophyton violaceum.

 

Dosage & Administration

For patients with tinea pedis, tinea corporis, or tinea cruris, this topical preparation should be applied to the affected area and the immediate surrounding area once or twice a day. In the treatment of tinea versicolor (pityriasis), oconazole cream should be used once a day. Tinea corporis, jock itch and tinea versicolor (pityriasis) should be treated for 2 weeks, and tinea pedis should be treated for 1 month to reduce the chance of recurrence.

Use Oxiconazole topical preparation as directed by the physician. The hands should be washed after applying the medication to the affected area(s). Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Oxiconazole cream isfor external use only.

Use the medication for the full treatment time recommended by the physician, even though symptoms may have improved. Notify the physician if there is no improvement after 2 to 4 weeks orsooner if the condition worsens.

Inform the physician if the area of application shows signs of increased irritation, itching, burning, blistering, swelling, or oozing.

Avoid the use of occlusive dressings unless otherwise directed by the physician.

Do not use this medication for any disorder other than that for which it was prescribed

 

Interaction

otential drug interactions between Oxiconazole and other drugs have not been systematically evaluated.

 

Contraindications

People who have previously shown hypersensitivity to oxazoleconazole should not use topical oxconazole preparations.

 

Side Effects

Pruritus, burning, irritation and allergic contact dermatitis, folliculitis, erythema, and papules, fissure, maceration, rash, stinging and nodules.

 

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy category B. Because Oxiconazole Nitrate is excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when the drug is administered to a nursing woman.

Precautions & Warnings

Oxiconazole topical preparation is not for ophthalmic or intravaginal use.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place,protected from light. Do not freeze.
