Levofloxacin prevents the activity of the enzymes bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which are necessary for DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination. In vitro, it exhibits activity against a variety of gm-ve.

Iron, antacids, and adsorbents all interfere with levofloxacin absorption. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use could make CNS stimulation more likely. Taking warfarin may make bleeding more likely.
Contraindications
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, quinolone antimicrobial agents, or any other component of this product should not take it.
Side Effects
Levofloxacin is well tolerated by most people. However, there are usually a few side effects.
- Dizziness
- Headache
